Finally a Maserati that is almost affordable
The Ghibli is an all new model in the Maserati stable of cars who’s main purpose is to attract new consumers to the luxury sports car segment. With this lower priced model, the Ghibli is the perfect stepping stone for those who want to jump up a level into high end luxury cars.
The Ghibli appears sharper, sleeker and drives can be better around the curves to drive than its big brother Quattroporte at a much lower price point ($65k vs $102k). Now the Ghibli competes in a very competitive class, one which Maserati could not compete in before. This class includes luxury cars like the: BMW 5 Series, Audi A6 and Mercedes E-Class which are all great vehicle in their own right. To date the Maserati is really at the higher end of the luxury scale which means they are quite expensive. Every car in their stable easily costs more than $100k and those cars include the Quattroporte, GranTurismo Coupe and the GranTurismo Convertible. This leads to a certain exclusivity that is indeed good for the image but bad for sales.Because the Italians car manufacture wants to bump up sales levels by 2015, to more than five times and want to increase to at least 50,000 vehicles per year, they rise now down from their high horse and mingle for the first time, the upper middle class. The Ghibli is the new hope, and a vehicle that can compete with the top dogs like the BMW 5-Series, the Audi A6 or Mercedes E-Class.The Fiat subsidiary relies not only on a passionate design but also sporty tuning with the engines being related to that of a Ferrari. Where the German competition is mundane and boring, the Maserati is a breath of fresh air featuring an exciting design on the outside and a business atmosphere on the inside. The Ghibli looks like a smaller version of the Quattroporte, it takes over all the trappings that you would expect from the brand of Modena: The front of the Ghibli is flat and long and flows in the famous shark mouth that would swallow the front man formally. In the front fenders there are the usual gills, the flanks are heavily contoured and the tail is short and crisp.

Nevertheless, the Maserati offers enough space for all passengers: Front traveling on tightly upholstered seats with sporty contours and recognize the differences from the Quattroporte only in less bombastic design that is available to the Italians to shame. Back it comes to just under 20 inches less wheelbase compared to the Quattroporte, although to no longer quite so feudal. But for two adults enough space anyway. And if you have once heaved his luggage by the comparatively small hatch, also 18 cubic feet of luggage space are competitive.

What the Ghibli missing the Quattroporte to opulence, he does with vigor and dynamism up for it. Because at least when you switch from the highway on a winding country road, the more manageable format passed to his advantage. The Ghibli appear sharper, sleeker drives and can be even better drifting around corners.
For China, where the owner prefers to take the right rear than in the front left area, and for America, where a Maserati is a family car, the Quattroporte may be the first choice. But in our part to drive not only cheaper, but better with the little brother. No wonder the Italians of the descent significant increases hope in the business class, especially in Europe, want to do with class mass and calculate over 20,000 Ghibli per year. That would be more sales than in all other series.
For the first time a six-cylinder

But not only that segment and the model are new – go in driving the Italians new ways. Where there was only V-8 engines since the BiTurbo era in the nineties, now six-cylinder come for the first time in recent history back into use. Powering the new Maserati Ghibli is a twin-turbo 3.0 liter V-6 engine making 345 horsepower and 369 lb-ft. of torque.

Will be built during the available in two performance levels with 330 and 410 hp gasoline as the V8 engine from sister brand Ferrari in Maranello, comes the diesel from VM Motori Italian suppliers. But CEO Harald Wester knows what he is guilty of its customers and promises: Even with a diesel drives like a real Maserati Ghibli – and above all, he sounds like this.

So quite the right tone have its engineers not yet been taken. But the engine is not nailed and is certainly not a mealy-mouthed. But with a Soundsymposer in the onboard electronics and two speakers near the exhaust Maserati composed an impressive soundscape that ranks somewhere between American V8 bollern and Hamburg harbor tugs. Whether that be a sporty middle classSedan fits, everyone must decide for themselves. But at least the sound is concise and present and the Ghibli no mealy-mouthed like a Lexus or an Infiniti.

All-wheel drive for Ghibli and Quattroporte
A new format and a new engine – that’s not all, on the Maserati drivers can look forward to. But also bring a technology premiere the Italians together with the strong petrol engine in the new entry-level sedan also an all-wheel drive that there will be at the same time also in the Quattroporte.

This is certainly no harm. But this should not obscure the fact that for a few other gaps in the list of equipment available – for example, in the Infortainment and assistance systems. For much more than a wireless hotspot, a reversing camera and cruise control has Maserati does not offer.

For connoisseurs cars like the Quattroporte or the GranCabrio that may still be in order, but if you want to lure business customers and frequent travelers, then you have which facilitate the work a bit – even when riding in the Maserati should be more like a burden.
