Test Drive Report

When you think of a modern Gran Touring car the new Aston Martin Vantage should not be overlooked. The noble Briton has been thoroughly refreshed both inside and outside. The positive: Fantastic engine sound, excellent performance, timeless design. The negative: Limited space available, high price, no assistance systems. With a base price of $280k the Aston Martin Vanquish has few equals out there. The luxury coupe combines an aluminum chassis and a body made of carbon has been technically revised thoroughly. The Vanquish remains one of the most magnificent Gran Turismo cars our time.

Under the seductive long bonnet still babbles a 6 Liter V-12 engine that is hand built. The potent engine, which is produced at Ford in Cologne is new and closely related to that of the super sports car Aston Martin One-77. An enormous 565 horsepower and 457 lb-ft. of torque are on hand for your pleasure. “The new engine has more power and is much more efficient than before,” says Aston Martin CEO Ulrich Bez. Fuel economy ratings are 13 MPG in the city and 19 MPG on the highway. The Aston Martin Vantage runs from 0 to 60 MPH in 4.1 seconds. The top speed is 185 MPH. With Sport button flap exhaust system for a usual amazing sound and the envious glances of the environment makes.

The handling of the Vanquish was and remains a pleasure. The main reason is the body, which is completely made as strong yet lightweight carbon fiber, which in turn sits on an aluminum chassis. The V12 engine is positioned well behind the front axle and six-speed automatic transmission was banished to the rear axle for better weight distribution. Directional stability, suspension and damping are a delight. However, the switchable sports mode does not cause a big difference.

“It takes more than 200 build hours in our factory in Gaydon, a Vanquish is completed,” explains product manager Andy Aslam, “only the trunk lid is made of one piece but that takes two days. You will like the other carbon fiber parts from a supplier in southern England to Gaydon supplied where the Vanquish is assembled.”

The interior has also been revised but may be considered weak when you are talking about such an expensive car. But it’s not too much more spacious despite the lush wheelbase and new panels. Driver and front passenger makes especially the wide center tunnel and elevated to create. The sports seats could offer more thigh support and side support. The two caves in the rear seat anyway are not intended for transporting people. You can cancel them and use as a storage area. In addition, the loading was increased compared to the Aston Martin DBS by 60 percent to 368 liters.

Another weakness was the expensive super sports cars in the 2013 model year non-drop: Not everything is in the interior of noble level. The pitman arm is still coming from elderly Ford cheap production, the hand brake on the outside of the driver’s seat would fit better still in a rustic vans and many plastic surfaces look anything but basic.
