Anyone who looks into the eyes of the Rapide will fall instantly in love. And unlike the Porsche Panamera can also be proud of his backside: The Aston Martin Rapide is a pleasure to drive and a pleasure to ride in for any one of the four passengers. The positives: Very balanced chassis, a monstrously powerful engine, precise steering. The negatives: High fuel consumption, little space in the rear, no assistance systems. Fast and beautiful at a price though. The Aston Martin Rapide is now available for $207k. The fledgling class of four-door exotic cars has its new flagship.

Unlike competitors like the: Maserati Quattroporte, Mercedes CLS, and Porsche Panamera; the Rapide offers the most amazing looks while rivaling the performance of the Panamera Turbo. Business partners or even the in-laws want to ride in the seat each time you hit the road Aston Martin CEO Ulrich Bez, “We also offer sport seats, the rear is a completely different driving experience.”

The reason for the manageable space is the sexy shoulder line and the sharply cut exterior dimensions of the Rapide. This British supercar is cut more sharply than its competitors. The Rapide is the first Aston Martin model since the Lagonda to have four doors and four seats. The engine is borrowed from the DB9 V12 making this one of the fastest four-door cars in the world. This 6.0 liter engine makes 470 horsepower and 443 lb-ft. of torque.

The Aston Martin Rapide is not a born and bred Englishman, in contrast to Vantage, DB9 and DBS. Because production capacity at the Aston Martin Headquarters in Gaydon is so overrun, the construction and build is outsourced to Magna Karoseriespezialist to Graz, Austria. “We can build 2,000 vehicles per year around,” says product manager Kim Palmer: “This year we are expecting at least 1,600 vehicles sold.”

The idea for the construction of a four-door coupe is not new. “This struck me for the first time in 1998 in the sense,” said Bez, who took over the helm at Aston Martin only twelve years ago recalls. “In 2005, the idea came about back up.” They needed a vehicle to future investors to make the mouth after Aston Martin watery, because Ford was planning to sell the British luxury brand. “We were the first in 2006, who have shown such a vehicle,” says Misc However, the spin-off from Ford took a lot of time and the competition was faster. Even the main challenger overtook the Porsche Panamera, Rapide with his last year.

“Under Ford, we have projects such as the One77 or the Rapide not manage,” said Ulrich Bez are satisfied, “we now have the advantage to be independent and able to serve us in the development and manufacture them.”

The result can not only be seen but also particularly let go. The Rapide is a sporty glider, whose suspension tuning needs fear no comparison. Long straights, curves, change and mountain roads – it is everywhere like a charm. Who wants it harder to sharpen with a sport program and electronic dampers at any time.

The steering is precise, not too sharp over long distances. And the brakes provide the delay you want from its athletes. The Rapide had the makings of a real sportsman – if there were not 1980 kg curb weight on the ribs. Despite stiff aluminum body, 20-inch wheels and the rear-wheel drive chassis of the sovereign cannot play completely in the border area.

“The Rapide is the most elegant four-door car in the world” can lead developer Ian Minard self-doubt does not arise in the first. As well as the exterior is delicately seats, controls and leather surfaces present in the interior. Even if it gets tight in the rear for passengers: A view through the frameless windows shows amenities such as seat climate control, DVD entertainment and a separate climate control. Palmer: “We wanted the best of the best.”
